I once changed a PSN password on the PS3 and was then logged out on the PS4, so it should definitely have logged you out of the console from wherever you change the password. At least it would be a major security flaw if it didn't. If it's the PS3 I think you go into system settings and reset system to default settings which then your password is all zero's 0000.
